A Similarity-Based Protocol for Concurrency Control in Mobile Distribution Real-Time Database Systems

چکیده
Research in the concurrency control of real-time data access over mobile networks is receiving growing attention. With possibly lengthy transmission delay and frequent disconnection, traditional concurrency control mechanisms may become very costly and time-consuming in mobile distributed real-time database systems (MDRTDBS). Due to limited bandwidth and unpredictable behavior of mobile networks, the past research on concurrency control for distributed real-time database systems (DRTDBS) can not be directly applied to MDRTDBS. In this paper, we propose a distributed real-time locking protocol, called SDHP-2PL, based on the High Priority Two Phase Locking (HP-2PL) scheme and the concept of similarity for MDRTDBS. We consider the characteristics of mobile networks and adopt the concept of similarity to reduce the possibility of lock conflicts. A detailed model of a MDRTDBS has been developed, and a series of simulation experiments have been conducted to evaluate the capability of SDHP-2PL and the effectiveness of using similarity for MDRTDBS. The simulation results have confirmed our belief that the use of similarity as the correctness criterion for concurrency control in MDRTDBS can significantly improve the system

Concurrency control in mobile distributed real-time database systems
With the rapid advances in mobile computing technology, there is an increasing demand for processing realtime transactions in a mobile environment. This paper studies concurrency control problem in mobile distributed real-time database systems (MDRTDBS). متن کاملOn using similarity for concurrency control in real-time database systems
Most of the proposed concurrency control protocols for real-time database systems (RTDBS) are based on serializability theorem. Owing to the unique characteristics of real-time database applications and the importance of satisfying the timing constraint of the transactions, serializable concurrency control protocols are not suitable for RTDBS for most cases. In this paper, another notion of cor...

A class of security-critical applications with the requirements of timing constraints, such as wireless stock trading, power network scheduling, real-time traffic information management, etc., demand the support of mobile distributed real-time database systems. For the class of applications, mobile distributed realtime database systems must simultaneously satisfy two requirements in guaranteein...
متن کاملConcurrency control in real - time broadcast environments q
Owing to the unique characteristics of real-time broadcast environments, serializability is too strong as a correctness criterion and not suitable for mobile real-time transactions. Considering that relaxing serializability such as epsilon and similarity serializability may sacrifice database consistency to some extent, we propose using a correctness criterion called weak serializability. In th...
